Welcome to the Friends of Woodhouse Grove
Welcome to the Friends of Woodhouse Grove

"WELCOME to Friends of Woodhouse Grove, the PTA of Woodhouse Grove School! A special welcome to all new parents whose children have joined The Grove this year.

"Friends is all about socialising and having fun at a wide variety of events throughout the year. In the process we raise a great deal of money for activities across the school plus our annual Leavers' Awards. Last year we raised an incredible £3,540 in total. Hopefully this year, with your help, we'll raise even more! So please keep coming back to this website where you'll find news of events - and much more!" Nicky Harris, Chair, Friends of Woodhouse Grove

Fantastic news!

We thought that last year's fund-raising was brilliant but nothing could have prepared us for the amount we raised this year... a whopping, stupendous, mammoth £6,830!!! See right for details.

New parents - would you like to join us?

Joining Friends (the school PTA) is one of the best possible ways to get stuck into life at 'The Grove' really quickly and get to know other parents and staff.

This year we're particularly eager to welcome new members to our group. So if you're interested, why not get in touch via our Contact Page or just come along to our first meeting. (See below for details)

News from the Grove

See us in News from the Grove and The Grovian

For the past couple of years we've been allocated the back cover of News From the Grove, the twice yearly news publication produced by the school. So please check out the latest issue!

You'll also find us in the school magazine, The Grovian, which is published every Autumn. We're near the back, with a full page round-up of events held throughout the year. And we're on the school website, too!

Next Friends meeting - AGM, Friday 10th September, 6.00pm, Long Gallery Bar

And our next normal meeting is Monday 18th October at 7.30pm in the Long Gallery Bar. New parents are especially welcome! Plus, see Nicky or Bev about our FOWG meal in Horsforth on Wed 22nd Sept. (New parents very welcome.)

NEW PARENTS: Call Nicky Harris on 07766 570427 who will arrange to meet you in the car park.

SPEND! SPEND! SPEND!

There's nothing Friends of WG like doing more than spending money - and this June we had an amazing £6,830 in the kitty - that's over DOUBLE what we raised last year!!!!

So it was out with our chequebook for the biggest spending spree we've ever had!!

First, we gave £3,000 to the gym refurb programme (money raised from our recent Auction of Promises). Then we gave £300 to the Boarding and Arts Club for materials, £300 towards an athletics discus cage, £380 towards a CD player and £2,000 towards stage equipment for the school theatre. We've been able to increase the amount we give to our Friends Awards candidates - a total of £850 this year.

Wow!!! We are amazed at your generosity this year!!!

We work hard to organise events... you come along and enjoy them, hopefully raising a bit of money in the process (or a MASSIVE AMOUNT in this year's case)... we donate it to groups like those above... and your kids benefit! A brilliant combination! Read more here>>

'Call My Bluff' Wine Evening - a great evening!

Thank you to everyone that supported our Wine Evening which was a massive success and great fun. The staff seemed particularly skilled at accurately identifying the wines and walked off with a number of prizes...

Thanks to Premier Cru of Guiseley for providing some fantastic wines and to the Stansfield Arms, Apperley Bridge, for preparing tasty lasagnes. Also a huge thanks to Phoebe and Alex for giving up their Saturday evening and for calling our bluff with some extremely convincing wine descriptions!

Auction of Goods and Promises - an incredible evening!

You would not believe the amount of money we raised at our Auction! An incredible £3,000!! Considering that last year we raised £3540 in total... from ALL our events... raising such a colossal sum from just one event is truly awesome!!!!

Thanks to everyone that took the time to come along - and also to those that were unable to attend but sent in postal bids. A huge thanks, too, to all those parents and associates that donated promises.

Every penny raised goes towards enhancing your children's experience of life at Woodhouse Grove, enabling them to do all kinds of activities that wouldn't be possible without the money we donate from our events.

PS. On top of the £3,000 raised, our 6th formers raised an additional £230 which went direct to Cancer Research.

Thanks again - and we look forward to seeing you at our Wine Evening (below).
